Week Three - How to use scanners

This week we were introduced to using scanners. We were asked to bring certain objects, e.g. postcards, objects that we would have to find over the weekend (such as leaves or twigs) and imagery.

Since my boyfriend and I went out for a meal on that Saturday I searched the car park and found a couple of things. I also brought several postcards and a few other things with pictures on.

As there weren’t many scanners available we got into groups and shared, my group having consisted of Rachel, Heather and Warren. We created 6 images in which we tried to fill up every blank space and leave as little free as possible.

We also had a presentation about Gilbert and George's work, who were using film primarily but have also started using digital, especially to edit film images.
I preferred their earlier work which was done in film; however, overall I found it hard to get into their work. Especially their later works I found very exaggerated in terms of colour and other editing, and to me some of them looked like they overdid it just because they could, without any/much consideration for the overall outcome. The messages they are trying to convey are important, but I feel that they could have done a better job if they had not edited their images as excessively. But then, maybe them getting away with it for so long is the true art behind their work?
